FAQ

What is Advisent? Advisent is an Australian-based platform that connects clients actively seeking legal help with qualified lawyers. It enables direct, fixed-fee bookings and helps you build your profile, reputation, and client base.

Is there a cost to join? No. It is free to sign up and create a public professional profile. You only pay a platform fee of 50% of the first consultation when a client makes a booking. The platform fee is deducted automatically after the appointment. You keep 100% of any future work with that client.

How do I get paid? Clients pay upfront when booking. After the consultation is completed, the fee is transferred to your nominated Stripe account. Advisent does not handle trust funds.

Can I choose my own fees and availability? Yes. You choose your own fixed fee (minimum $330) and set your availability. Clients can only book time slots you have made available.

What is included in the consultation? You are expected to provide initial legal advice based on the client’s matter. If ongoing work is needed, you may propose further engagement directly. Any future legal work is entirely between you and the client.

Can I message my client before the meeting? Yes. Once a booking is made, you can use Advisent’s Inbox to send free messages to your client. This will help understand more about their case so that you can prepare ahead of the meeting.

Can I cancel a booking? Yes. If you cancel, the client will receive a full refund. The client may rebook at anytime.

What if a client books me but their matter is outside my expertise? If you determine at the start of the meeting that you cannot assist, notify the client and Advisent immediately. A full refund will be issued and no platform fee will apply.

Can I edit or delete my listing? Yes you can easily edit your listing from your console. If you wish to delete your listing, mark it as 'closed' and it will be deleted by our team for you. You can also easily create a new listing at anytime.

How does Advisent help build my practice? Advisent handles marketing, client search, bookings, and payments, so you can focus on delivering quality legal advice. You also build your reputation through reviews and an SEO-friendly public profile.

Are there rules I must follow? Yes. Lawyers must act ethically, professionally, and in accordance with all applicable legal and regulatory obligations. Misuse of the platform, including attempts to circumvent bookings or platform fees, may result in removal.

How do reviews work? Clients may leave a review after a consultation. You cannot remove or edit reviews, but Advisent may moderate feedback that is abusive or irrelevant.

What is the cancellation and refund policy for consultations? Clients may cancel their appointment up to 1 hour before the scheduled time and receive a full refund.

If the client cancels within 1 hour or does not attend, the fee is generally non-refundable. However, we encourage you to offer an alternative day and time to the client particularly where they have made genuine efforts to communicate or where the circumstances warrant flexibility. Many clients appreciate the opportunity to rebook, and doing so can help build trust, reduce complaints, and improve long-term satisfaction.

Communication to reschedule can be managed directly through your Advisent inbox.

If the consultation proceeds as scheduled, it is non-refundable, except where the lawyer determines at the start of the meeting that the matter is outside their area of expertise or they are otherwise unable to provide legal advice. In such cases, the client will receive a full refund.

What happens if there is a dispute or complaint from a client? To maintain the integrity of the platform and protect your professional reputation, Advisent reserves the right to issue a full refund to the client at its discretion in the event of a dispute, complaint, or concern about the service provided.

If a refund is issued:

  • You will not receive payment for the consultation, regardless of whether it proceeded or legal advice was given.
  • You acknowledge that Advisent is not liable for any time spent, loss of income, or consequential loss resulting from the refund decision.

This ensures consistent client experience and supports the long-term reputation of all lawyers on the platform.
